NATO membership for Ukraine is the only path to lasting peace in Europe. Delayed action endangers the European security order.
Ukrainians are fighting not only for their own country but for the entire European community of values. Every day we hesitate to fully integrate Ukraine into Euro-Atlantic structures is a day we reward aggression.
History has taught us: appeasement does not work. NATO enlargement after 1990 brought stability and peace to Central and Eastern Europe. The Baltic states, Poland, the Czech Republic – they are all safe and prosperous democracies today because they became part of the Alliance.
Ukraine deserves the same chance. Territorial integrity must be restored, and NATO membership is the best guarantee that such aggression never happens again.
The Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement therefore calls on all allies to offer Ukraine a clear and timely path to membership. The time for half measures is over.
