Statement

Solidarity with Ukraine Is a Duty

StatementNovember 18, 2025By Mag. Günther Fehlinger

Ukraine is defending not only its own country but also European values and the international order. Our support must be consistent.

Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has been fighting not only for its survival as a nation but also for principles we all take for granted: territorial integrity, sovereignty, the right of peoples to self-determination.

If we allow these principles to be overridden by brute force, then we have all lost – not just Ukraine. Then we return to a world where might makes right, not the rule of law.

The Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement calls on all Austrians to continue supporting Ukraine – politically, humanitarianly, and economically. Solidarity is not an option but a duty.

We call on the Austrian government to: - Fully implement sanctions against Russia - Increase humanitarian aid for Ukraine - Welcome and integrate Ukrainian refugees - Advocate at EU level for Ukraine's rapid accession

History will judge us by how we acted in this hour of truth.
